The Microsoft suffered a major outage on Wednesday affecting Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and several other platforms, with thousands of users reporting problems. Microsoft confirmed the problem and stated its engineers were investigating the incident and working to restore affected services.Lets breakdown the news.

Microsoft said admins could monitor the updates via its official Microsoft 365 Admin Center under incident MO1437424.

SharePoint and OneDrive Among the Hardest Hit

Xbox Outage left many users unable to access SharePoint Online, with the service displaying the error message “Something went wrong” when opening files or websites.

Others said OneDrive was down or only working intermittently, making it difficult to access documents stored in the cloud.

Microsoft Teams users also experienced issues with chat features, with some reporting that images were not loading or conversations were delayed.

IT administrators also had trouble accessing the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. A few said the dashboard was loading really slowly, and a few couldn’t get it to load at all.

Power Automate users were experiencing issues loading automated workflows and for some customers Microsoft Loop pages were also not loading.

Outage Primarily Affected North America

Microsoft said the outage began around 10:44 a.m. Eastern Time and affected customers primarily using certain network paths in North America to access Microsoft 365 services.

Website monitoring services also reported a surge in user reports during the outage, indicating that many customers experienced similar problems in a short period of time.

Microsoft Begins Recovery Efforts

Microsoft rerouted network traffic across parts of its infrastructure to mitigate the impact. The company said the move helped restore service to some users but many customers continued to face problems.

Microsoft later said its engineers had likely identified the cause of the outage and had begun rolling out remediation efforts across the affected systems.

The company said it would monitor the results before confirming all services were fully recovered.

Businesses Advised to Review Recovery Plans

During the incident Microsoft asked organizations to look at their business continuity plans and disaster recovery plans. At the time engineers were working hard to get things back, to normal.

The company has not said when everything will be fully fixed.. They did say they will keep giving updates as more information comes in.

Is the Xbox Outage Related?

When the internet went down people started searching for “xbox outage”.. Microsoft did not talk about Xbox. They talked about Microsoft 365 for businesses.

People might have looked for Xbox because Microsoft is in charge of it. However the problems people had were with things, like Teams and SharePoint and OneDrive and Microsoft 365. These are tools that people use to get work done.

Final Thoughts

Microsoft is still looking into the problem that is causing Microsoft 365 services to not work right. Some people are able to use these services but others might still have some issues until everything is fixed.

You should keep an eye on the Microsoft service status page to see what is going on and when everything will be back, to normal. Microsoft will put the updates on this page.
